Responsive image galleries with a full-screen lightbox, the free-standing answer to the paid "Image Gallery Pro"
plugin on the FlatBB marketplace.
- Two or more images in a row in a post become a grid.
- Any picture in a post opens full screen over a dark backdrop; the other pictures of the same post are one click,
arrow key or swipe away. - A single image opens in the lightbox too (it can be turned off).
- The Gallery button in the editor toolbar sets the columns and the shape for the post.
How the per-post options work
The Gallery button writes a small option fence at the top of the post, so the options travel with the Markdown and need
no extra storage:
```gallery
cols=3 ratio=landscape
```
markdown.after reads that fence, removes it and lays the images out accordingly. The fence is stripped from excerpts
too, so it never leaks into a search result or a notification. Without a fence the site-wide defaults are used.
| Option | Values |
|---|---|
cols | 1–6 |
ratio | auto (natural), square, landscape (4:3), portrait (3:4) |
You can also type the fence by hand; the toolbar is just a convenience.
Settings
Admin → Plugins → TabRe Image Gallery → Settings.
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Columns | Default number of columns for a gallery (1–6). |
| Image shape | Default ratio for a gallery. |
| Open images in a lightbox | Turns the lightbox on or off site-wide. |
| A single image opens too | When off, only images inside a grid open full screen. |
Notes
- Everything is rendered server-side from the post HTML (
markdown.after, no database access); the lightbox is
plain JavaScript with no dependency. - The grid drops to two columns on phones; the whole layout follows the active theme's variables and works in
right-to-left languages. - Full-screen images are excluded from the editor's own preview, so clicking a picture while writing does not open the
lightbox.
Uninstall
Disable removes the grids and the lightbox; the posts are untouched (the option fence stays in the Markdown and is
shown as a code block again).
