TabRe Random Avatars
Draws a personal avatar for every member without a picture — as a local SVG file, no DiceBear or other outside service. Colors and patterns come from the account id and a random seed, so every picture is unique, and everyone still sees a clean image at 40px.
Features
- At sign-up — a new account without a picture gets one right away (can be turned off in the settings).
- Roll again — Settings → Random avatar: preview, Roll a new avatar, or Remove my picture (back to the letter avatar).
- Admin page — Admin → Avatars: how many members have no picture, one button to fill them in batches of 200, and a strip of the latest members' avatars.
- Two styles — Shapes (a mirrored block pattern) and Initials (the first letter on a gradient).
- Uploaded pictures win — a member with a real uploaded avatar is never overwritten.
Settings (Admin → Plugins)
| Key | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Enable generated avatars | Master switch. |
| Give new accounts an avatar at sign-up | Automatic assignment on registration. |
| Style | Shapes or Initials. |
Where the pictures live
uploads/avatars/av<uid>-<seed>.svg. Rolling again removes the previous generated file; a member's uploaded picture (uploads/avatars/<uid>.jpg) is never touched.
Notes
- The SVG is built from numbers and fixed colors only; the first letter of the name is XML-escaped.
- No database tables; the avatar path is the core
users.avatarcolumn.
